Leasehold
Returns to the Headlines Leasehold continues to be re-resurfacing as a key political and social issue, largely because of the widespread realisation that the government's recent legislation on leasehold reform and commonhold is deeply flawed. An example of the rising political profile of leasehold is the recent debate in the House of Lords, in which Lord Evans for the government conceded that the take up of commonhold was 'disappointing'. As a consequence of this he signalled that the government is thinking about a formal review of the legislation concerning commonhold. The media's renewed interest in leasehold can be seen in the Daily Telegraph's hard-hitting special report Leasehold Has Us Tied in Chains, on 21 January 2006, and BBC Radio 4's Money Box programme on commonhold. We are told they plan a follow-up programme on leasehold abuse. |
